The year past and the year coming…

Finally I am returning to blogging. I had to take a break from everything for a while and get my mental house in order. Quite a bit has been going on in my life, physically and spiritually. I have been learning some new things about myself that have been.. difficult to say the least. I will talk about these things when I am good and ready, but for now am playing them close to the chest.
Been plenty busy at the day job, writing and being outdoors. I have a quarter-of-a-million words in editing right now that will become a trilogy as the year progresses. Got plenty of projects in my head for the coming year. Hunting took up a great deal of my time this year, and thought I have learned so much, it was still a bust of a year as far as deer are concerned. More or less got skunked every time… There is always next year. Taking a breather before the spring fishing and hiking begins. I covered probably a hundred miles or more on foot last year, and I certain want to explore more trails and lands.

So where do I want to go in the next year? This is not so much about resolutions, as projects for the new year. There is always more writing to do. But there is more to it than that. Many of my goals are intertwined along with my spirituality. I want to expand my outdoor skills. I am going to take back up making bows again, and continue learning about knapping, leather work and a whole host of other survival and woodsy skills. Just so many crafts I want to learn more about. It coincides with my recent interest in the paleolithic and the mesolithic. I want to learn more about how my ancestors lived, and with my outdoor background I say I have a pretty good start, but there is always more to learn. So much more.

That also plays into my spiritual life. The beliefs of those times, much of it animistic or shamanistic in nature, are very interesting to me. I have some skills in this area, but once again, there is always more to learn on this regard. I want to offer my skills and services more to the community at large, though I am still working out how to best do that. I have done some teaching in the past, and I am hoping to do more of that. Also, I would like to add counseling, advice, and maybe readings and cleansings as well. But there is a ways to go before I get to that point.

Another big consideration for this year is taking upon the title of “independent scholar.” I like learning, research, writing and teaching, though I cannot see myself in an academic setting. Therefore, I will put more serious thought into taking that next step and doing some more rigorous research of my own. In some ways, more than a few I think, I already am an independent scholar. I have published some of my own work here, and am always doing research and those kind of things. But perhaps it is time to take the next step, to take it a little more seriously and see where that path might take me.

Lastly, I am going to make a big push towards boosting my work and getting noticed as a writer. Marketing and networking (for writing, spiritual and scholarly reasons) is going to be a focus this year.

It is great to be back, and am hoping to have more work for you all soon!

Thanks for reading!
